Orc Arrer Boyz

Here is the second rank of my Arrer Boyz. Just like the first rank, I've repositioned the arms on these guys. For one of them, I had to add a big rock for him to stand on. Trying to get these guys to rank up the way I want has been quite interesting so far. Hopefully, by the time I get the unit finished it will all be worth it.

The main colors for this rank are Bubonic Brown and Bleached Bone. As usual, the non-skin areas are highlighted up with Bleached Bone. After the whole model is done, I wash it with a brown & black mix.

I did see a video on Youtube about adding a small amount of future finish to your paint to make it flow better (search Dr. Faust's painting clinic). I tried it on these and it does seem to work.

My Devlan Mud & Badab Black wash is starting to run low. I decided to mess around with trying out some different "Magic Wash," formulations. For this I tried out some different combinations of Higgins Black Ink (available at most art supply/arts & craft stores), Burnt Umber acrylic paint, Pledge with Future Floor Finish, and water. Still not super pumped about the results I got, so if you've got a sure-fire recipe, let me know. I did see a review somewhere on the blogs that the Army Painter inks are a great match for Devlan and Badab.

Orc Arrer Boyz

Finished up with my first rank of Arrer Boyz. My biggest beef with these models is that they don't rank up very well at all. To that end, I've decided to reposition the arms on these models. So after some careful sawing, and repositioning, and green stuffing I've come up with these. The next rank that I'll do will also be repositioned.

I've also done some head swaps with the Orc regiment box and I also have some of the old, old Drastic Plastic Orcs and I've swapped in one of those heads as well.

The two main clothing colors are Vallejo Game Color Cold Grey and the old GW Bubonic Brown. As per usual, the non-skin areas were highlighted up with Bleached Bone. After everything was painted, the model was given a wash of 2-1 Devlan Mud, Badab Black.

Night Goblin Shaman

Just finished working on this Night Goblin Shaman. I wanted to spend a little bit more time working on this guy and try out a few new techniques.

Skin: Gretchin Green highlighted with Bad Moon Yellow.

So I started with laying down base coats. Then I gave it a Badab Black wash. I think the brush I used was too small and I ended up getting a blotchy kind of covering. So I think in the future if I try this again, I'll use a bigger brush or try to apply it in a more controlled manner.

Then, I went back in and reapplied the base coats. I tried to blend it up to maintain smooth transitions.

At this point, I went in and highlighted all the non-skin areas up with bleached bone.

Next step was to give the whole model a wash of Devlan Mud.

Finally, I went in and fixed a few spots. Had to re-establish some highlights in a few places.

Pretty happy with how it turned out. I know I still have a ways to go to get where I want, but after a while you just have to put the model down and say, "Finished."

Night Goblin Archers

Here is my unit of Night Goblin Archers, now up to 37 gobs. It includes full command and netters.

As with most of my stuff, I've got some old paint jobs and bases that I'd like to redo. Maybe when I get this army up to around 2000 or so points I'll start reworking some of the older stuff.

Night Goblin Archers

Here is another rank of Night Goblin Archers.

The color scheme for this rank is Bleached Bone and Chaos Black split on the hoods. The tunic is Bleached Bone.

The non-skin areas were higlighted up with Bleached Bone as usual.

After the model was highlighted it was washed with a 2:1 mix of Devlan Mud and Badab Black respectively. I experimented with thinning down the mix with some water. I won't do this again as it seems to increase the surface tension of the mix. It left some rings and a less smooth transition as with the undiluted mix. I did go back in afterwards and highlighted the Bleached bone areas.
